Fasting Before a Blood Test: What and Why
Some blood tests ask you to fast because food changes the very thing being measured — mostly glucose and lipids.
The usual rules
- Fast 8–12 hours (water is fine).
- Black coffee? Ask — it can nudge some results.
- Take routine medications unless told otherwise.
Water does not break a fast. Cream in your coffee does.
